Welcome to the “What I Bought Wednesday” series. Each week I’m sharing my favorite finds from the week and will share all the details. All of the products I share contain affiliate links, but are products I genuinely use and love.
In today’s “What I Bought Wednesday” I’m sharing what I packed for vacation. I recently attended a luxury mastermind retreat in Puerto Rico with my coach and mastermind group. It was the first time I had traveled on my own since before the pandemic (and beyond) – needless to say, mama was a tad bit excited to get away.
We stayed in a beautiful AirBnb with an infinity pool and a private beach. There were tropical birds, wild horses, mimosas, and the most beautiful starry night skies.
Literally, a dream.

For weeks prior to the trip, I shopped, planned, and prepared. I’ve decided that part of the thrill of traveling is in the time spent preparing! And in case you’re like me, and you love to look at what other people buy for their vacations – well, then, this post is for you.
Since Puerto Rico is a US Territory, I did not need a passport to travel there. I did, however, have to provide documentation that I had received my vaccination and/or had a negative test. I think I’ll save the details of the trip itself for an entire dedicated post – but I knew this is likely a question at the top of everyone’s mind.
I flew Southwest airlines, which meant that I had two free checked bags. I didn’t need both, but it’s one of the things I love about flying Southwest. You always get two free checked bags.
Now, on with the show…
If you do not have a set of these bad boys, don’t wait any longer. They’re the upgraded version of the regular Airpods. I’m an avid true crime podcast listener, especially when I’m working on content or cleaning/doing stuff around the house. These save me every single time.
I didn’t actually buy these because of the trip, but I had to include them because I literally don’t go many places without these. They have a noise cancellation feature that is GLORRRIOUS. When flying, noise cancellation is the only way to go. I’m one of those people who likes to get into my own little zone when traveling so these help a ton.
Honestly, the only downside is when I forget to make sure they’re charged and I can’t use them.
I always struggle to find cute hats that will actually fit my big head, so this one was a big win for me. I purchased this hat from Amazon, only after thoroughly checking out the review photos and reading the details about how its size adjustable.
When it arrived, I was thoroughly surprised that it actually fit. And better yet, it looked cute on!
This hat is not one you want to pack in your luggage, though. It would easily be crushed and crumpled. I carried this hat on and it was easy to slide under the chair or tuck away.
Since having it in Puerto Rico, I’ve worn it to the pool with the kids (and gotten it wet) and it’s held up really well! Totally recommend if you’re looking for something cute for the beach/pool.
Is it just me or are swimsuit cover ups hard? I swear I either feel like they’re totally over the top or totally frumpy. Don’t get me wrong, I love a big loungy cover up from time to time, but finding a good one that doesn’t look like a mumu is just dang hard.
So, in preparing for the Puerto Rico trip – I set out to find a cute Amazon coverup.
This one stood out to me in its listing photos and the reviews and photos were all really great. Amazon buyer pro tip: always read the reviews. And if there are photos that show the product in real life (not a listing photo), that’s a bonus!
Years ago I worked retail for Vera Bradley. It was a dream job at the time. Don’t judge, Vera was a big deal those days. I happened upon this gorgeous piece of luggage that was on sale and I snagged it. Ever since then I’ve been grateful when my obnoxiously purple floral luggage came rolling out of the luggage carousel at the airport.
I always knew which bag was mine.
But, as the years passed and I started traveling more, I realized the luggage with the 360 rolling wheels where MUCH easier to manage than the 2-wheeled piece I had.
I took this opportunity to find a hard shell rolling luggage bag I could use for this trip and many more to come.
To be honest, I waited too long to order anything online so I had to go the old fashioned way and find one in store. Thankfully Macy’s was having a sale and they at least had *some* options.
I love this case because it’s got the hard shell (which protects everything inside), has zipper locks, and it has the 360 rolly wheels. Win, win, win in my book.
Oh, and it’s currently ON MAJOR SALE right now at Macy’s with code SHOP.
Since we’re on the topic of luggage and packing – let me share these packing cubes with you. I actually could not FIND my packing cubes for the trip before leaving and thus, had to pack my bag SANS cubes. It was a holy mess by the time the trip was over.
I mean, it took me all of one hour after arriving in PR to dig through, make a hot mess out of my perfectly rolled clothes, just to find my swimsuit.
I was really wishing I had used packing cubes by the time the trip was done. I hate rummaging through piles of clothes.
So while these aren’t the turquoise packing cubes that I actually have, if I were to buy them again – it would be some just like these!
In the Winter I like to travel in yoga pants. They’re stretchy and comfy and perfect for a day of travel. So it’s only fitting that in mid-July I prefer to travel in biker shorts.
My first pair of biker shorts were from Old Navy, and I love them. I’m the kinda girl that buys 5 of the same type of something so I can wear one every day. So I decided I needed to branch out a tad bit and see if Amazon had any great biker shorts to offer.
Again, I scoured the listings, I read the reviews, I checked out the photos. These biker shorts are SUPER comfy. They run a tad bit big, but that didn’t bother me because we all know how the eating and drinking on vacation go. So it was nice to have a pair of shorts that were tight, but like, not too tight if ya know what I mean.
They also have pockets and I love traveling with side pockets like this because I can easily put my phone or ID in there to access instead of having to dig it out of the bottom of my bag or wallet every time I need it.
For reference, I ordered a size medium.
How many days old were you when you found out Quay is actually pronounced key?
If you’re shaking your head right now…I promise, it’s true. I heard a commercial on the radio the other day and they were talking about “Key Australia Eyewear” and I was so confused until I realized they were talking about “QUAY” Australia.
Mind. Blown. The things you learn…
Yeah, I’m that girl.
Anyway, I got my first pair of their sunglasses in a FabFitFun box and loved them so much until they got eaten by a certain furry chocolate animal that shall not be named. I really do love their eyewear and these aviators are soooo cute.
Ever been on a trip with a book that you thought would take you an entire week to read but it actually only took you two days? Yeah, that seems to happen to me like every single time we’d go on vacation.
So I finally decided no more running out of books to read and bought a Kindle Paperwhite back in June before we went to Florida.
Best investment ever. I literally love being able to take it everywhere I go and when I finish a book, I just get on the bookstore and buy a new one to read. So I never run out of good books.
I actually didn’t think I would enjoy reading on a device but the technology of the Paperwhite makes it feel so much like a real book that I can’t complain!
Now, I don’t read as much at home as I would love to and definitely need to prioritize some self-care time for getting lost in a good narrative, but when I do – I basically go through books like crazy.
I have a little book list going on GoodReads and am thinking I’ll share more about my favorite books this year in a post soon, but for now – just trust me and get this Kindle Paperwhite. I promise you won’t be sorry.
Remember when we called flip flops thongs? Like, I legit remember my grandma telling me to go get a pair of thongs to wear down to the dock at the lake house.
Nowadays, we can’t handle the word “thong” – so flip flop it is.
I’ve been eyeing these simple black Tory Burch flip flops for a while. For whatever reason I couldn’t justify spending $50 on a pair of sandals but this summer I felt like I was adult enough that wearing a pair of $50 sandals was some sort of rite of passage.
Now I have a boujee pair of flip-flops to wear to the neighborhood pool. Don’t judge me. I love them. They’re actually super comfortable and I think you’d love them too.
Plus they’re great for traveling and are lightweight and easy to pack.
This wristlet is the perfect size for a night out. I wanted something compact that could hold all my things without being a bulky bag to carry. I actually could fit my phone inside the fold which made this wristlet super functional, and ya’ll know how I feel about function.
Another thing I love about this wristlet is the gold zipper and metal clasp feature.
If you hadn’t noticed, I have a pretty simple style and black is a sure thing in my book. Also, I love that the leather on this wristlet is more durable rather than the softer leather you sometimes see designer bags made out of.
Here’s a quick recap of what I packed:
Apple Airpods Pro // Panama Sun Hat // Swimsuit Coverup // Rolling Hardshell Luggage // Packing Cubes //
Comfy Biker Shorts // Quay Australia Sunglasses // Amazon Kindle Paperwhite // Tory Burch Flip Flops //
Michael Kors Wristlet
