In this post I am dishing all the details on this favorite dark paint color. It might be the my favorite color in our home and it never fails whenever I show this room, I get asked about this dark paint color. Read on to get all the details!
What I really love most about this gorgeous color is that it’s perfectly classic with nautical undertones and theme. At the same time, it speaks a bit of bohemian to my soul. The green tint in the navy hue gives the little free-spirited, hippie part of my soul a spark of creativity for what it could be used for!
Before this color was named color of the year for 2020, I found another similar dark paint color that I believe to be equally as stunning and worthy of such a nomination. It’s called Sherwin Williams Dark Night. We painted our dining room in this gorgeous deep sea reminiscent color. We actually found this color when we were planning renovations for our home. The natural light floods this room and the dark paint color just pops against the rest of my neutral home.
Important Tip for Choosing SW Dark Night
Be sure to pick a room that is well lit. Even if it has big windows or lots of natural light, that will be best for this dark paint color. Dark colors can make a space feel small and crowded if they are not well lit. A dark, moody, paint color will be most gorgeous in a more open space.
You’ll want to make sure you have the time and space to be able to do at least two coats of this paint. Dark Night is a really great rich, dark paint color, but it shows when you miss spots or don’t get enough even coverage.
Who Makes Dark Night?
Dark Night is made by Sherwin Williams. This color can be used as a moody exterior color, interior wall color, accent wall, or statement piece. It’s a gorgeous cabinet option because of its deep blue and green undertones.
Here is a list of some of the best dark paint colors. They are similar to Dark Night, but you might be interested in checking out the options.
What Colors Compliment this Dark Paint Color?
Because this paint color is so dark, some of the best complimentary colors and textures are light and natural. For example, using a light natural wood item in whatever room this color is, would really make the item pop. It doesn’t compete with the dark color. I love how this natural wood buffet pops against the gorgeous dark paint color.
I love how the natural colors compliment this color so well. The green botanicals look classic, and even a little bohemian against this dark blue paint.
What Does This Dark Paint Color Look Like in a Real Home?
The majority of our home is painted in a light gray. We have a few versions of gray in different areas but they are all generally the same color. A lot of our decor is a nice, light, white that flows with the farmhouse feel of my style. We have Dark Night painted in our dining room. When you first walk in our home, you can see it to the left. It is the perfect pop of color in a generally neutral color scheme. I think that actually because the rest of our home is so neutral, Dark Night looks so good in our dining room.
