You’re engaged! Or maybe you’re planning a party! Time to let your guests know to save the date for a wedding or special event you’re planning!
Be sure to include all of the essential information, and find the best looking save the date cards so your event’s first impression will be ultimate perfection!
Planning the perfect event can be quite a thrill, especially if you’re a planner. There is just something about organizing an event that gives me all the feels. Everything from the save the date cards to the handwritten thank you cards. The entire process just brings a smile to my face. Whether it’s a wedding or a galantine’s event, I have an affinity for the planning process.
And while I am not really working on planning a wedding right now (been there, done that, happily married and enjoying being on this side of the big event) I still love the idea of sending out formal invitations or save the dates for any other type of event!
Save the Dates for a Wedding
January and February are big months in the wedding planning industry. Many brides are just beginning their wedding planning, and there are usually bridal shows to attend. Traditionally save the dates for a wedding are one of the first big steps taken to get planning going. It’s important for brides to send out a save the date to their guests. Save the dates let guests know they are being invited, to reserve the date for the wedding on their calendar, and plan to attend. The general rule of thumb about when to send out save the dates is four to six months prior to the wedding if it is local. If the wedding is a destination wedding, it’s best to send them out about eight to twelve months before the wedding.
What kind of information should you include on your save the date card? The main thing, keep it simple. At this point in your planning stage you want to provide the basic information for you guests. Keep it simple with three key pieces of information.
1. The Wedding Date
It’s important that you have your wedding date selected before you send out your save the dates. But you will need to secure your venue, ceremony location, and officiant first. If you’re going for a more formal tone, spell out the date completely.
2. The City of the Event
Including the location of the event will allow your guests to plan ahead. Out of town guests will be able to begin preparing for their trip and your local guests may want to reserve a hotel room for the night rather than to drive home.
3. Names of the Couple
Oddly enough, this is something that might be overlooked. It happens, you know. Traditionally the bride’s name goes first and then the groom. Same sex couples should consider alphabetical order.
4. Wedding Website URL
Basic Invite offers a FREE wedding website. While a wedding website is not necessary, its definitely a nice bonus for your guests. If you choose to include your wedding website, it offers your guests a location where they can find all of the information for the wedding without having to keep track of a paper invite.
5. Formal Invite to Follow
When preparing your save the date cards, one thing to consider is including information for your guests to expect their formal invitation. This will allow your guests the courtesy to expect their formal invitation to arrive in the weeks to come.
Save the Dates for a Party
Consider sending out a save the date for your upcoming Galentine’s event or girls night. As you begin to put the details of the event together, a save the date can give your guests an early heads up about the event and they can begin to make arrangements accordingly. For a party or gathering, save the dates can be sent out anywhere from four to six weeks before the event. As the event gets closer, you can send out formal invitations.
Where to Find the Best Save the Date Cards
Basic Invite is a custom invitation and stationery website providing users with the most beautiful and quality stationary and invitations.
One of the best things about Basic Invite is that they offer a wide variety of options and customization!
Basic Invite has over 900 wedding invitation sets alone. Plus, they have all of the wedding stationary that you would need to purchase for your big day. They have everything from cheap save the date magnets (uhm, how cool is that idea?) to thank you cards and everything in between. Plus they are one of the few websites that allows customers to find infinite color combinations with instant online previews! They will also send you a free sample of your design to see in person.
I am always very picky when it comes to the look I want and the aesthetic I am going for, so this is a huge bonus for me! I love having the ability to make something my very own!
Another thing that I love about Basic Invite is that they offer free wedding websites and a free address collection service. You guys, that alone is worth its weight in gold! When I got married (ten years ago, gasp!) the whole address debacle was just really frustrating! Having a system for collecting and storing addresses for the wedding would have been such a time saver.
Save the Date Cards for a Galentine’s Event
Ya’ll know that I am a busy working mama of three AND I am growing a blog and business in addition to all of that. I have to make time to be with my girlfriends. It’s like medicine for my soul. But usually it’s a wild goose chase trying to figure out when we can all be together.
The solution for this is planning an event far enough in advance that everyone has a clear calendar and can attend. Save the date cards are a perfect way to do that!
Once your save the date cards have been sent out you can begin to coordinate the details for your galantine’s event.
Treat Your Tribe
Give your girls the chance to indulge in all their favorite snacks. Throw together a spread of sweet and savory bites. Trader Joes has really great options for a charcuterie board!
Learn Something New Together
Plan for a fun learning experience. Whether it be learning how to put together a bouquet of flowers, the art of hand lettering, or a fun photography corner – any kind of learning activity like this can be a great way to get everyone engaged and excited about being at the event.
Relax and Rejuvenate
Girls just want to be pampered. Give your best girls permission to be pampered at your Galentine’s event! You can treat them to an extra special spa day OR create an at-home oasis of your own where they can come and relax and binge on Netflix all day/night.
Save the Date Card Favorites
You don’t need to limit yourself to save the dates for a wedding. They can be used for any event you’re planning in the coming months!
Of all the customizable and beautiful cards on Basic Invite’s site, the following are a few that caught my eye. I love simple statements and these are perfect for that aesthetic. They also have great cheap save the date magnets and I selected a few of my favorites of those as well.
I would be sure to include the basic information like the date and time. It’s totally okay to keep these simple, so you don’t need a ton of extra information.
People don’t get formal invitations or save the dates that often anymore so imagine how surprised your girlfriends will be when they open their mailbox to find a cute save the date!
