“I do not know of a place in the country that is equal to Netherfield”
-Pride & Prejudice
Between miles of open fields, amongst a backdrop of clear blue skies there is a little slice of heaven named after one of the main settings for Pride & Prejudice, Netherfield Natural Farm. A place to escape the noisy, business of life’s daily demands. I recently visited the farm for a bachelorette party, and found myself instantly relaxed and pampered.
This place is a gem in the backroads of Kansas. A gem, I tell you. And bonus, it’s just 50 minutes south of Kansas City.
We arrived around 3:30 p.m. (check in is at 3 p.m.) after wine tasting at Somerset Ridge Winery (one of the many local wineries in the area, and so good!). We were greeted with a warm welcome from the geese and kittens roaming the property. Smitten already by the simple charm of the house and property we were eager to tour the house. The owners, Matt & Scott, had everything ready and waiting for us including big band music playing all throughout the house. Scott was busy preparing our dinner and was making homemade pasta when we arrived. Each meal is fresh, farm to table, and prepared by one of the owners (and also chef), Scott.
You know know the little things really add up? There were so many little touches that made our stay feel that much more enjoyable. The house is styled in a way that tastefully and uniquely blends the modern and vintage look. You know I loved that! Each room is styled just a bit different, but still provides each guest with complimentary soaps, water bottles, towels, and even bathrobes (which were perfect for our post dinner hot tub dip).
Although we didn’t use the pool because it was too cold for us, (since we stayed in October) we did enjoy some time by the fire pit out by the pool. And when the sun went down after dinner, the pool was all lit up and just beautiful.
Can we just talk about the food for a minute? Ya’ll I was just excited to eat a home cooked meal I didn’t prepare myself and didn’t have to feed to children, but I was completely blown away by these meals! Delicious doesn’t even do it justice. Dinner was Chicken Picatta served over homemade pasta, and dessert was a homemade cheesecake. Breakfast was egg frittata with roasted potatoes and rosemary biscuits. See for yourself. You’ll just have to pay them a visit to taste for yourself!
And you know what was one of my favorite parts of our stay? I got to help feed leftovers to the animals in the morning after breakfast! Took me back to my childhood of the days we would feed the leftovers to the geese at my grandparents lake house.
They offer a great lunch/bread making class for guests staying two nights in the house. It’s $35/ea. for lunch and the class.
A few things to note:
– There is no alcohol served from the bed & breakfast. Guests are welcome to bring whatever beverages they would like with them.
-There is a barn/loft area that has an additional room that could sleep 4. The barn below has chickens and cows in it and there is a bar area as well.
-Breakfast is included in the cost of the room, dinner is an additional $35/ea. When you make reservations and indicate that you will be dining in for dinner, the chef will collect some information from you about likes/dislikes and any dietary restrictions. So if I wanted to bring my husband back (who is Gluten Free) we would work with him to help come up with a menu that would suit our needs.
-If you stay two nights there is an option to have lunch and take a break making class. And let me tell you, the bread was magical. Mama loves bread!
