How Do I Make my Patio Cozy?
Let’s chat about making that patio cozy. There is nothing better at the end of a beautiful long day than to curl up in front of the fire pit and enjoy a cozy outdoor space. I can just imagine it now, glass of wine in hand, kids in bed, cool breeze flowing, firepit ablaze, curled up next to my love with a blanket and come good conversation. Doesn’t it sound dreamy?
Let’s break it down into the elements you can include in your patio design to give it that “cozy” effect!
Firepit
A firepit is great for those early spring evenings when the air still has a hint of crispness but it’s totally outdoor weather. Recently, we switched from a real wood burning firepit to a propane one and let me just say….UPGRADE!
Candles
Battery lit candles are the way to go for your outdoor spaces. And no, I would not recommend leaving them outdoors. We will be adding lanterns to our patio decor this season and they will be brought in each evening so we can make them last longer. Candles add a touch of ambiance with their light glow.
Bistro Lights
These are the lights that are strung across the patio. Sometimes, if you have a covered porch or patio, you can string them up in the covering. But even if you don’t, there are ways to string bistro lights across your patio for an extra dose of ambiance. They give off enough light to see, but are the perfect low-light for your evening fire-pit activities.
Rug
Listen, I am obsessed with rugs. Indoor and outdoor. A good outdoor rug can really make your patio space feel like home. You want to feel comfortable and enjoy being outside right? A rug is the perfect addition! Rugs are always great ways to ground a space and bring it all together. If you have a large patio (like us) then a rug is great for bringing certain areas in together.
Pillows
Some patio furniture will come with standard pillows – but they usually aren’t very cute. If you’re the crafty type, you can totally sew covers that go with your style. If you’re like me, you will search Etsy until you find the perfect pillows and BUY THEM! I would recommend bringing outdoor pillows in each evening as well. You can probably get away with leaving them outside, but if you want to keep them clean and dry – I’d say set them inside your back door.
Plants
I’ve become something of a plant lady. That might be a bit of a stretch but I now have more than three house plants and am excited to add plants to our patio too! I am currently on the hunt for the perfect plants to add to our patio decor but so far, I am thinking about ferns, elephant ear, and a planter with some herbs!
Cozy Outdoor Patio Decor Inspiration Boards
I wanted to give you some cozy patio decor ideas that were pulled together as entire spaces, so the idea of inspiration boards came about. I made one board for our own patio, but they are a lot of fun to pull together so I decided I would do five different inspiration boards for you! I hope they inspire you to create a cozy outdoor patio space!
