Have you made your goals for the new year yet? How’d you do on last years goals? If you’re like me, you can’t even remember what last years goals were! So here’s the thing…usually I set goals at the beginning of the year with nothing but the best intentions, and it never fails by about February I’ve already let them slide to the side. The fact is that life is fast paced and hectic and I just plain have a hard time keeping up with my kids let alone adding lofty goals to the mix. Then I start beating myself up with thoughts like “I do this every year” and “I’m just not focused enough”. But not this year. No ma’am, this year I am conquering my own fears of failure and giving myself permission to let go of some of the things I hold onto that hold me back from the full potential that God has designed for me.
Do you hold onto fears that keep you from reaching your highest potential for what God has created you for? Maybe that’s a little too deep for you. That’s okay.
I want to inspire you to give yourself permission to dream a little bit. When was the last time you did that? As adults we get so stuffed down, always forcing ourselves to put our dreams aside. But imagine you could put all of your hopes and dreams for 2019 in one central location and create a clear vision for it. So close you could almost see yourself doing all of the things you dreamt of. If that doesn’t light a fire inside of you then are you even living? We were MADE for the things that light our passions ablaze!
This is why I chose to create a yearly vision board. With pictures and words to inspire me and remind me of my hopes and dreams for the new year. You can do this a few ways.
- Go old school and find a bunch of magazines and just start cutting out pictures and words to glue onto your vision board.
- Get techie and create a digital vision board with free images and text from Google.
I prefer the techie route myself. It’s much more efficient and then I can save it to my desktop, print it for my bathroom mirror, and pull it up on my phone whenever I am needing a reminder. I did this for the first time last year after seeing Rachel Hollis (Author of Girl, Wash Your Face but honestly if you don’t know who she is you need to go follow her on all social media outlets! She’s one of the most inspirational women I’ve ever listened to) create one, and it actually worked! I did so many of the things I had put on my vision board, and some of them were big and scary! Like starting this blog, for instance. And I haven’t regretted it one bit, its brought me so much joy and fulfillment.
You can even make it an excuse for a girls night! Gather your tribe, put out some snacks, open a few bottles of wine, send the kids out with dad and have a few hours of dreaming and fun together!
While you’re at it, you could even get the kids in on the fun! Have your kids create a vision board. They might have more fun finding pictures and cutting and pasting them to a real poster board. It would make a great Winter Break activity!
Here is my official vision board for 2019:
What are you waiting for? It’s time to get dreaming for the year to come!
